R500 is a two component anti-fire intumescent polyurethane paint in the following versions:

R500 is an anti-fire treatment for wall or ceiling panels in wood (match boarding, furniture, and furnishing), GRP and other surfaces. Apart from being excellent anti-fire product, R500 paint also provides excellent resistance to chemical agents, it is elastic and offers optimal thermal stability. It can also be used on old objects previously painted with other products, even if not anti-fire, as long as the two products are compatible to each other.

The product is supplied at its correct viscosity and, therefore, further dilution is not recommended; make sure that the wood is dry (approximately 12% humidity), clean and free of dust and greasy substances (oil, wax, etc.) that would otherwise prevent the perfect anchorage of the product.
Mix both the product well before use and after mixing the two components; proceed with application which may be carried out by paintbrush, curtain coating and spraying systems based on one of the following work cycles.
We therefore recommend the following application cycle:
- Apply a coat of 200 g/m2 of the intumescent base coat R500.
- After at least 1 hour and within 4 hours, apply the second coat of 200 g/m2 of the intumescent base coat R500 without sanding (if the above period of time is exceeded, then it is necessary to sand the previous coat)
- After 24 hours sand with medium sandpaper grit 180-200 and apply in one coat 100 g/m2 of the protective top coat R500 Top.
The intumescent product has been classified as CLASS B / s2 / d0 on the basis of data from fire reaction tests carried out in conformity with the European norm EN 13501-1:2018
This classification is valid for the protection of all types of wood-based supports either walls or ceilings, as specified in:
- EN ISO 11925-2:2020: “Reaction to fire test. Ignitability of products subjected to direct impingement of flame. Part 2: Single flame source test”.
- EN 13823:2020+A1:2022: “Reaction to fire tests for building products. Building products excluding floorings exposed to the thermal attack by a single burning item”.
